Body Contouring Q & A

Park Slope Laser Aesthetic Center

What is the difference between losing weight and fat reduction?

Sometime during your pubescent years, the number of fat cells in your body reaches its final count, which then remains constant through adulthood. So, when you gain weight, it is not because you’ve added fat cells -- it’s because your existing fat cells have increased in size. The same holds true for losing weight. When you lose weight, your existing fat cells shrink.

In fat reduction, the goal is to treat the targeted fat cells, reducing the overall number of fat cells in your body. Consider fat reduction as a way to contour your body for a slimmer look, rather than as a weight-loss program.

What is Velashape III?

Velashape III combines four different technologies to treat cellulite while improving the appearance of skin. Cellulite is a structural skin condition that presents itself as a dimpling, which tends to get worse as a person ages. No matter what your weight or age is, Velashape III can help you experience relief.

Park Slope Laser Aesthetic Center uses the most up-to-date version of Velashape. Velashape III uses technologies including infrared, bi-polar RF, and mechanical tissue manipulation. When treating skin, these technologies work synergistically to heat the connective tissue, increasing collagen production and local cellular metabolism, which reduces the appearance of cellulite.

If you’re suffering from cellulite, Velashape III can provide you with relief. Three-and-a-half million treatments have already been performed to date. Here are some of its benefits:

  • Reduces the appearance of cellulite
  • Minimally invasive procedure
  • Four different technologies working together
  • Promotes an increase in collagen

What is Sculpsure?

Sculpsure is a Federal Drug and Administration (FDA)-cleared method of fat reduction using targeted laser energy, without the need for invasive surgery. Here’s how SculpSure works:

  • The fat cells under your skin are heated slowly
  • The temperature is raised to the point where the structural integrity of your fat cells are damaged
  • These damaged cells are then flushed by the lymphatic system over the course of three months (the body does not regenerate these fat cells)

Each treatment generally lasts 25 minutes and the number of treatments depends on the area you want to target. The team at Park Slope Laser Aesthetic Center will sit down with you to tailor a plan to successfully meet your needs.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolScupting has been cleared by the FDA as a fat-reduction procedure that targets fat cells without damaging the tissue or skin in the area. As the name implies, CoolSculpt uses a technology that freezes fat cells, damaging their structures. Your body then processes the dead cells and flushes them naturally.

The number of treatments necessary to get the results you desire depends entirely on the area you would like to sculpt. Some areas may need only one treatment, while others require several. The technicians at Park Slope Laser Aesthetic Center will help you determine how many will be necessary.

Here’s how the treatment works:

  • The device is positioned on your body
  • A gel pad and applicator cup are then applied to the targeted area
  • Vacuum applicators pull your tissue into the cup
  • Applicators deliver the controlled cooling to that tissue
